Phillies top prospect Roman Quinn, sidelined since mid-June with a left quad strain, will not return to Double-A Reading this season. According to Phillies’ director of player development Joe Jordan, the 22-year-old switch hitter is progressing well after injuring his hip on June 12th and he could be available in time for Reading’s potential post-season run, but instead the organization prefers for Quinn to take things slowly, for his long term benefit.
Avoiding any rush to return, in an effort to help his team chase the Eastern League crown, the Phils’ brass prefers for him to prepare for winter ball later this year.
Ranked by Baseball America as the Phillies seventh best prospect, Quinn, 22, was hitting .306 this season with six doubles, six triples, four home runs and 15 RBIs before getting hurt. He stole 29 bases as well, which is still good for second in the Eastern League
