The Phillies hat worn by William Penn statue during 1993 playoffs is for sale on eBay

A Philadelphia artifact can be yours.  The City of Philadelphia made it customary to put hats on William Penn's statue above City Hall for many of the city's playoff runs.  The Phillies hat during the Phillies 1993 World Series run can be yours.  All you have to do is be the highest bidder.  No, not in an auction house, but eBay.

The auction is listed by Del MLV Sports.   The product currently is in Wilmington, Delaware, and the buyer must pick it up.

The statue used to be the highest point in the City of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Art Commission was not to approve anything taller, according to a "gentleman's agreement".  But in 1987, One Liberty was constructed, beginning what many Philadelphians call the "Curse of Billy Penn", for violating the height agreement.

Three years later the sister building, Two Liberty Place was constructed.  No team in Philadelphia won a championship until 2008 when the Comcast Building, which surpassed One Liberty Place and Two Liberty Place as the tallest building, put a mini-William Penn statue on top, making that the highest point in the city.
