Phillies turn to Nola with hopes of salvaging series finale against D-Backs

Looking to salvage the series finale with the Arizona Diamondbacks (56-56), the Philadelphia Phillies (45-69) will send prized, right handed rookie Aaron Nola to the mound this afternoon for his fifth career start.

David Buchanan, who allowed 11 runs on 11 hits and two walks in yesterday's 13-1 defeat, was sent down to Triple-A Lehigh Valley Wednesday afternoon. Left hander Cesar Jimenez was recalled in his place, according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com.

Starting Pitching Matchup:

Philadelphia Phillies (45-69) Arizona Diamondbacks (56-56)
RHP Aaron Nola RHP Chase Anderson
(2-1, 3.65 ERA) (5-4, 4.10 ERA)

In Nola's last start on August 7 against the San Diego Padres, he tossed a career-low 56.6 strike percentage, which in-turn yielded a career high 1.333 WHIP ratio. The right hander received a no-decision, as the Phillies won in comeback fashion with a home run from catcher Cameron Rupp in the top of the 12th inning.

Nola, 22, is 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.098 WHIP ratio over two career road starts. Overall, he has 21 strikeouts and five walks over 24 and two-thirds innings.

Anderson, 27, was drafted in the 9th round of the 2009 amateur draft by the Diamondbacks, 12 selections before the Phillies' drafting of outfielder Aaron Altherr.

The Wichita Falls, Texas-native has just one career start against the Phillies, which occurred this season on May 15 at Citizens Bank Park. Anderson received a no-decision, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks over five and one-third innings.

Tonight will be Anderson's second start since returning on August 7 from a disabled list-stint with right triceps inflammation.
