Newly acquired running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, DeMarco Murray, was held from participating in the first day of practice on Sunday due to testing high on a hydration status test.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly on his decision:

“That was our decision. We do a hydration status test and he was a little bit high. When we see guys that are high from a hydration standpoint, then you kind of pull them back a little bit because that’s when they’re susceptible from an injury standpoint.

We monitor guys in a lot of different ways and there’s a reason we do it. If a guy isn’t hydrated enough, which puts him in a more susceptible situation for injury, that’s what we’re trying to do. That’s what our sports science thing is; trying to prevent injuries.

Instead of saying afterwards, 'Joe Jones just pulled his hamstring, he was really dehydrated.’ Well, why didn’t we know that before he went on the field? That’s why we do what we do, so you can prevent things. Once it happens, you can’t really get that back.”

Sam Bradford, QB

Eagles hope to reach short-term extension with Sam Bradford

(ESPN/Ed Werder)

The Philadelphia Eagles have interest in tying starting quarterback Sam Bradford to the franchise beyond the upcoming season and have begun discussing a contract extension, according to sources.

It is not expected the negotiations would result in a long-term contract but more likely an agreement providing the team control of Bradford past the 2015 season, the final year of his current contract.

Mychal Kendricks, ILB

Chip Kelly: Mychal Kendricks ‘not going anywhere’

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said adamantly Sunday that he won’t be dealing the fourth-year inside linebacker whose role is uncertain after the Eagles traded for inside linebacker Kiko Alonso and extended the contract of DeMeco Ryans.

CSN’s Derrick Gunn reported Saturday night the Eagles are holding onto Kendricks as an insurance policy for the 31-year-old Ryans, who is coming off the second Achilles tear of his career.
