The Phillies had pitcher David Buchanan on a set schedule: be ready to pitch when Cole Hamels pitches. With Hamels heading to the Texas Rangers, Buchanan will start tonight against the Atlanta Braves in Hamels' former rotation slot. But Buchanan will not be making the trip down the Northeast Extension alone.
The Phillies announced the pair of moves:
Following the Hamels/Diekman trade, #Phillies recalled RHP David Buchanan and RHP Dalier Hinojosa from @IronPigs.
— Phillies (@Phillies) July 31, 2015
Hinojosa was acquired on waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
Buchanan pitched very effectively in his Major League return before being sent back down to AAA Lehigh Valley. Buchanan went six and one-third innings, surrendering three earned runs en route to a win. In the majors this season Buchanan is collectively 1-5 with a 7.00 ERA.
Hinojosa hails originally from Cuba. For AAA Lehigh Valley, Hinojosa was 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in five appearances. Including his time at AAA Pawtucket, Hinojosa was 3-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 22 games, all in relief. Hinojosa also made one appearance for the Boston Red Sox, going one and two-thirds innings and allowing no runs.
Additionally, outfielder Jordan Danks will replace Ben Revere on the Major League roster, the Phillies official account tweeted. Danks was claimed from the Chicago White Sox this past offseason and will be a bench player. Aaron Altherr remains at AAA getting regular at bats while the Phillies appear t this time to prefer to start Cody Asche, Odubel Herrera, and Domonic Brown in the outfield.
