According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, talks between the NFL and Tom Brady on a possible settlement regarding his original four-game suspension continues into today and that the case "will be resolved in the next 24 to 48 hours."
While there has only been speculation over what the final decision will be, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith has heard that commissioner Roger Goodell will uphold the original four-game suspension, and that Brady may have even "destroyed his cellphone" in a possible attempt to conceal incriminating texts.
If the suspension is indeed upheld, Brady is expected to seek the aid of federal court to implement an injunction, which would allow the 37-year-old to continue playing while the case "works its way through the courts."
Jonathan Martin retiring at age 25: NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported yesterday that Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Jonathan Martin has announced that he will retire from the NFL.
The decision by Martin came in the wake of a back injury that he suffered in the off season. Instead of undergoing surgery and potentially missing the 2015 season, the 25-year-old has elected to retire.
Martin made headlines with the Miami Dolphins back in 2013 during a "bullying scandal," where he was allegedly bullied by fellow lineman Richie Incognito.
Wilson to curb contract talks if there's no deal by Friday: According to ESPN's John Clayton and Jim Trotter, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will cease contract discussions with the team's front office if a deal is not agreed on by Friday, the first day of Seahawks training camp.
Wilson, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, is reportedly seeking a contract in the realm of $25 million per year, which would make him the league's highest-paid player.
If a deal does not materialize, the Seahawks could slap the franchise tag on Wilson next February. However, given his success and young age, a long-term deal would seem to be in the team's best interest.
Cowboys release RB Ryan Williams: Ryan Williams, the Cowboys' fourth-string running back behind Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar, has been released as the team prepares for training camp, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.
Williams had two knee surgeries in the off season, with the most recent happening after the team's minicamp in June.
A former second-round pick by the Cardinals back in 2011, Williams' career has been stalled by injuries. In only five NFL games, Williams has averaged just 2.8 yards per carry in 58 attempts.
