The Phillies continue to look at various trade scenarios surrounding starter Cole Hamels. The Los Angeles Dodgers remain an interesting possibility. With Zack Greinke almost certain to opt out of his contract at season's end, the Dodgers could acquire Hamels and essentially replace Greinke with him, but having both alongside Clayton Kershaw for a World Series run. But with Julio Urias and Corey Seager "untouchable" in trade discussions, would could headline a Hamels deal to Los Angeles?
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe considers an interesting trade possibility: otufielder Yasiel Puig.
The noise is growing louder on Puig and his low favorability among teammates, according to a major league source. The Dodgers were able to purge their team of Hanley Ramirez and Matt Kemp and are better for it. Is Puig next? Where Puig used to be untouchable because of his tremendous ability, the Dodgers don’t seem to feel that way now. Would they move him for a pitcher? And would the Phillies take him in a Cole Hamels package?
The idea certainly is an intriguing possibility.
There is no doubt that Yasiel Puig the player would be a perfect fit in right field for the Phillies. A right-handed power bat who can play defense. The real question is, how would Yasiel Puig the personality fit in a young Phillies clubhouse.
Puig spent some time on the disabled list in 2015, but is currently is batting .269 with four home runs and 16 runs batted in in 46 games.
