Kevin Correia designated for assignment; Severino Gonzalez to start Thursday

After Monday's game, the Phillies outrighted Sean O'Sullivan off of the 40-man roster. Today, they recalled Hector Neris to take his place. The team continued their starting rotation shuffle on Tuesday afternoon, designating Kevin Correia for assignment and recalling Severino Gonzalez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Phillies signed the 34-year-old right-hander to a Major League contract back on June the 8th. In five starts for the Phils since being added, he was 0-3 with a 6.56 ERA in 23 1/3 innings. Correia gave up nine runs in 3 1/3 innings against the Braves on Independence Day.

To take Correia's place, the Phillies have called upon Severino Gonzalez once again. He last pitched for the Phillies on June 28th against the Nationals. He earned the win after tossing 5 1/3 innings, giving up four runs while striking out seven. Overall, he's 3-2 with an 8.28 ERA this season with the big league club over five starts. He will oppose Dodgers righty, Zach Greinke on Thursday night in Los Angeles. In nine starts with the Ironpigs this season, Gonzalez has a 1-4 record to go along with a 4.38 ERA.
