Many Phillies fans continue to scream the mantra, "Fire Amaro!" despite the fact that Amaro has not been in the drivers seat of Phillies moves since Pat Gillick entered the picture. Even before that, many reports have said that Phillies former president David Montgomery was the one signing the likes of Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Carlos Ruiz to new deals.
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports:
Most are saying they expect incoming Phillies president Andy MacPhail to make some changes to the front office, and some wondered whether it wasn't the best sign that GM Ruben Amaro wasn't on the dais when MacPhail was introduced. Amaro could be kept in the organization even if he's no longer GM, as he is viewed as a lifetime Phillie, which is just as he portrayed himself …
Would that be enough to satisfy fans?
Amaro got the credit for trading for Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, Hunter Pence, and Cliff Lee. However he has gotten slammed for trading Lee and Pence. Despite assembling the Phillies 102-win team in 2011, Amaro will never be accepted by some fans. Amaro does not deserve all the blame, and keeping Amaro around in another capacity would not be the worst thing in the world. But, fans likely will think otherwise.
