Ben Revere on Ryne Sandberg: “Sometimes some managers ain’t made to be a manager sometimes”

Ben Revere is a pretty talkative guy.  That is why I am sure reporters went to Revere when looking for some commentary on Ryne Sandberg's sudden departure as Phillies manager.  Cole Hamels and Ryan Howard both said the right things yesterday, not willing to say anything bad about their old skipper.  But Ben Revere seemed to suggest that Sandberg was not very good.

In a piece on Phillies.com, Revere had this to say about Sandberg:

"I guess he knew or had a feeling they would make some changes and he didn't want to be part of that, so he said, 'You know what, I'm going to go ahead and step down now,'" Phillies outfielder Ben Revere said. "You know sometimes, honestly, sometimes some managers ain't made to be a manager sometimes. I mean sometimes you got a guy out there, you kind of struggle and all that pressure may have gotten to him, and he knew maybe it was time to go. Only thing about it was I guess he didn't want see himself be let go, so he stepped down."

So in essence, from Revere's perspective, Sandberg was not very good and was struggling with that.

While Revere may have tried to say the right things, he did not do his old skipper any favors.   Revere was not in the starting lineup last night, though it likely had nothing to do with his comments, and more to do with the Phillies trying to get at bats Odubel Herrera, who has four hits off of Max Scherzer in his young career.
