The Sixers announced this week that they will be hosting an draft viewing party outdoors at the recently renovated Dilworth Park on June 25th from 6-11pm. According to CBSPhilly, this will be the "largest draft party in team history." The party is sponsored by DraftKings, and it looks like to get tickets if you're over 18, you have to register for a DraftKings account using the promotional code "SixersDraftParty." First 1000 people to register get a free Ballin' Ben t-shirt, while everyone under 18 gets free admission to the party. Beyond the typical Sixers team event shenanigans such as a live DJ, a "Kid's Zone," Franklin and World B. Free, the party will also have several giant viewing screens, free food and rinnk for everyone, and THEO FREAKING RATLIFF (love that guy). Again, details can be found here.
The last team-sponsored draft party I went to was in 2006 at the Wells Fargo (neé Wachovia) center when the Sixers drafted (and promptly traded) Thabo Sefolosha with the 13th pick amidst rumors that AI was going to be traded. I took an embarrassing picture with Tyrone Hill, drank a few too many beers, ranted about AI when interviewed by the local news, and then was given disapproving glances by my father after watching the news segment later that night. So it goes without saying that draft parties are AWESOME. And if the weather holds, this could be a really nice setting to congregate and celebrate the arrival of Hinkie's next asset. Well played Sixers.
