Franco hits another game-tying home run; Howard homers, but Phillies fall to Giants

The San Francisco Giants came into Philadelphia without two of their strongest offensive players.  Hunter Pence is out with a jammed wrist.  Nori Aoki was out with the flu.  However, offense was no problem for the Giants as they downed the Phillies 5-4.

The offensive start for the Phillies was promising.   Ryan Howard homered in the first inning with Ben Revere on to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.   The Giants got one back in the top of the second inning to bring it to 2-1 on a Matt Duffy home run.   Phillies pitcher Jerome Williams got that run back in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double to make the game 3-1 Phillies.

However, the long ball would come back into play in the fourth inning.  With Duffy aboard, Justin Maxwell hit a home run to tie the game at three.  After retiring just one batter, Williams would depart, with Joe Panik and Buster Posey on first base.  Williams threw just 81 pitches.  Elvis Araujo would get the last two outs, but not before Panik scored to give the Giants a 4-3 lead.

Maikel Franco would tie the game at four with a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning off of Lincecum.  However, the even score would not last long.  In the top of the seventh inning with Luis Garcia on the mound, Buster Posey would hit one of his own, the fifth home run of the day from both teams, to give the Giants a 5-4 lead.

The game went into bottom of the ninth with the Giants still up one.   Cody Asche swung at the first pitch off of Giants closer Santiago Casilla and popped out to third baseman Matt Duffy.  Cesar Hernandez would also pop out to Duffy.  Odubel Herrera
