Severino Gonzalez will take the mound for his fourth career start, all of which have been away from Citizens Bank Park.

Gonzalez, 22, has progressively improved since his disappointing major league debut on April 28, when he allowed seven earned runs, 10 hits and two walks in just 2.2 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In his two starts since against the Marlins and Rockies, he has allowed a combined ten hits, three earned runs and one walk over ten innings.

Gonzalez's last start occurred on May 20 against the Colorado Rockies, as they Phillies were amid a five-game winning streak. He was perfect through the first three frames, but center fielder Charlie Blackmon hit a lead-off single in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Native to Santiago, Veraguas, Panama, Gonzalez signed as an amateur free agent on April 27, 2011. He shares a special camaraderie with Carlos Ruiz, who is highly idolized in the country.
