Severino Gonzalez takes the mound against Rockies for third start of season, career

Coming off of their first loss since last Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Philadelphia Phillies (17-24) will send rookie Severino Gonzalez to the mound tonight in the third of a four-game set against the Colorado Rockies (14-22).

Starting Pitching Matchup:

Philadelphia Phillies (17-24) Colorado Rockies (14-22)
RHP Severino Gonzalez RHP Eddie Butler
(1-1, 10.57 ERA) (2-4, 4.24 ERA)

Butler, 24, was selected 46th overall in the 2012 amateur draft by the Rockies. Over ten career starts, the right hander out of Radford University in Virginia is (3-5) with a 5.04 ERA. Butler has walked a combined eight batters over his previous two outings, both of which were against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Gonzalez, 22 will earn his third career road, and overall, start tonight in Colorado. He replaces right hander Chad Billingsley in the rotation, who was recently put on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder.

The Panamanian-native's major league debut on April 28 in St. Louis was surely one to forget, as he allowed seven earned runs and was pulled before finishing the third inning.

Gonzalez earned his first career victory in his most recent outing on May 3, down in Miami. He struck out 25% of the batters he faced (5 out of 20), and allowed just two earned runs in five innings of work.
