Final: Mets 7, Phillies 4
WP: Bartolo Colon (6-1, 3.30 ERA) LP: Chad Billingsley (0-2, 8.10 ERA) SV: Jeurys Familia (12)
Philadelphia, PA – Chad Billingsley looked strong early on, but the Mets offense scores two runs in three of the final five innings en route to a 7-4 win. The Phillies got to within one run in the seventh, but New York quickly tacked on two more runs in the eighth, good enough to seal the victory and win the series. This series loss marks the Phillies' eighth in their first 10 this season.
Chad Billingsley got the Phillies on the board first. After tossing his third scoreless inning, the Phillies starter took Bartolo Colon down the left field line for a solo home run off of the netting on the foul pole to give the Phils a 1-0 lead.
The Mets got that run back in the top of the fourth, courtesy of an RBI-single from Wilmer Flores to drive in Lucas Duda, who doubled off of Billingsley.
The Phillies retook the lead in the bottom of the frame. After a Chase Utley double, Grady Sizemore drove him in with an RBI-single to give the Phils a 2-1 lead.
That one-run lead didnt last for long, as the Mets struck again in the fifth. Billingsley walked Ruben Tejada to lead off the inning. Bartolo Colon popped out on a bunt attempt before Curtis Granderson hit a two-run home run to right center and give the Mets a 3-2 advantage. The Mets added on another run in the sixth. Wilmer Flores led off the inning with a double and Kirk Nieuwenhuis followed with an RBI-double of his own to put the Mets on top, 4-2, chasing Chad Billingsley from the game. Nieuwenhuis scored on an errant throw by Cameron Rupp, who was attempting to steal third, making it a 5-2 game.
The Phillies began to chip away in the seventh. Grady Sizemore hit a single to lead things off and Cody Asche doubled in the next at-bat. Cesar Hernandez came in to pinch-hit for Cameron Rupp and smacked and RBI-single to center field to plate Sizemore and make it a 5-3 game. Jeff Francoeur came in to pinch-hit for Elvis Araujo and he hit a sac fly to left, just missing a home run, to score Asche from third and make it a one run game, 5-4. The Phillies would end up leaving the bases loaded in the seventh.
The Mets wasted no time in getting some more runs off of Jeanmar Gomez. Anthony Recker and Ruben Tejada hit back-to-back one-out singles. Johnny Monell followed with a pinch-hit two-RBI double, extending the lead to 7-4. That is all the first place Mets would need as they take the series from the Phils, earning their 20th win of the 2015 season.
