This week's Future Flyers Report details eliminations for several prospects and the Reading Royals, while several will advance to CHL championship play.
Juniors:
Samuel Morin and the Rimouski Océanic swept Nicolas Aubé-Kubel the Val-d'or Foreurs in QMJHL third-round action, and begin the President Cup final tonight against the Québec Remparts. For what it's worth, the Océanic will hold home-ice advantage for the best-of-seven series.
The series will provide an interesting storyline for later this month, as both teams will automatically advance to the Memorial Cup. The Remparts are hosting this year's tournament in what is widely believed to be the last game at the fabled Colisée Pepsi, so subsequently, the Océanic will represent the QMJHL.
Tyrell Goulbourne and the Kelowna Rockets also advance to the Western League final, after ousting Portland in six games. However, Goulbourne won't be able to play, as he underwent surgery for a torn calf muscle — sidelining him indefinitely. His totals so far stand at one goal, one assist and 23 penalty minutes through 12 games.
Travis Sanheim and Radel Fazleev have also been eliminated, as their Calgary Hitmen fell to Brandon in five games. Sanheim's playoff run ends after five goals and 18 points through 17 games, while Fazleev posted four goals and 14 points through 17 games. Aubé-Kubel's run ended after five goals and 15 points through 17 games,
ECHL:
The Reading Royals fell in seven games to South Carolina in their first-round series, prematurely ending their Kelly Cup bid. David Marshall's five goals and eight points led the team, while Jordan Heywood's four goals and seven points also gave him a point-per-game average. Connor Knapp played all seven games, turning in a 2.44 GAA and .919 save percentage.
