Eagles reportedly to sign quarterback Tim Tebow

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, the Philadelphia Eagles will sign three-year NFL veteran and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner with the University of Florida, quarterback Tim Tebow.

Just 33 days ago, the Eagles held a private workout with Tebow at their NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia. Eagles' head coach Chip Kelly told NFL Total Access his reasoning for holding the tryout.

"I've always been a fan of Tim. We bring in a lot of players for private workouts, it's just he's the one that everyone keeps talking about. We brought in Terrelle Pryor for a workout and Thad Lewis in for a workout. When players are available for you to work them out it's the same thing of going to the Veteran Combine or going to the Super Regional Combine."

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter writes:

Before signing Tebow, the Eagles first wanted to try to trade backup quarterback Matt Barkley. But when the team could not get enough in return, [they] decided to bring in Tebow anyway so that he could be present for the team’s entire off-season program.

Tebow now will join a crowded Eagles’ quarterback roster that includes Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez and Barkley, giving Philadelphia three former first-round picks at the quarterback position in addition to another decorated college player. And it also will reunite Tebow and Sanchez, who were teammates with the New York Jets.

There has been much speculation this offseason that the Eagles have been looking to move newly-acquired quarterback Sam Bradford, in addition to Barkley, in order to move up in this year's draft to select quarterback Marcus Mariota out of the University of Oregon. While the Eagles currently have four quarterbacks under contract, as well as G.J. Kinne on a futures contract, moving two in Barkley and Bradford would create room for Mariota on their depth chart for the upcoming season.
