Flyers to pick 7th in NHL Draft, Oilers win lottery

Edmonton won the annual NHL Draft Lottery on Saturday, giving them the top-overall pick for the fourth time since 2010. The Flyers earned the seventh-overall pick, and will thus pick in the top-10 for the first time since 2011.

The Orange and Black entered the lottery with a 6.5 percent chance at snagging the top pick by virtue of their 24th-overall standing in the league, and could pick no lower than eighth overall. They'll have two picks in the first round for the first time since 2003 — with their second pick contingent on Tampa Bay's result in the playoffs.

The Oilers had an 11.5 percent chance of winning the lottery.

Connor McDavid enters the draft as the consensus first-overall pick, thanks to his 44-goal, 120-point campaign with the Ontario League's Erie Otters. Expect him to head west and don the Oilers' blue and orange for next season, where he can only face the Flyers up to twice in the regular season.

The Flyers have held the seventh-overall pick just three times in team history, using them to select Bill Barber in 1972, Ken Linseman in 1978 and Ryan Sittler in 1992.

Here's how the top 14 will look for the annual Draft, set for June 26-27 in Sunrise, Fla.:

2. Buffalo Sabres

3. Arizona Coyotes

4. Toronto Maple Leafs
