Phillies reach a new low…in attendance

Watching the Phillies this season fans do not have to look too hard to find empty seats at Citizens Bank Park.  The Phillies drew a sparse crowd on Friday night for the "On Deck" game against the Pirates, on a rainy Good Friday and Passover evening.   Could the Phillies possibly do worse than that night?

Yes.  Look at the background in the above picture of Jerome Williams pitching tonight, and you can see many blue seats. So how many were present today?

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports:

Phillies attendance tonight is 19,047, which is an all-time low. Previous low: 19,182 on April 26, 2006 vs. Rockies.

Ouch.

Phillies management long feared that if the team got rid of their veteran players, no one would buy tickets to see the team.   Going out on a limb, I do not think that strategy worked.  While some fans think this is an opportunity for $5 tickets on StubHub, they must remember one thing: someone has to buy the tickets first before they sell them at a large discount.
