The Phillies head to nearby Dunedin to take on the Toronto Blue Jays, as they begin the last leg of Spring Training action. Cole Hamels will take the hill for the Phillies while the Blue Jays counter with Aaron Sanchez. Both starters likely will make just one more appearance after today.
Cody Asche was originally scheduled to appear in the Phillies lineup today at third base. However, Asche has been scratched with lower back tightness, reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Asche was replaced in the lineup by Andres Blanco.
The Blue Jays will play most of their starters today, including newly acquired Josh Donaldson. To match the Phillies, both pitchers will bat, including Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez. Though they are in an American League park, teams can mutually agree to either use or not use pitchers as hitters.
The Phillies will finally give Cesar Hernandez a shortstop start this Spring. Hernandez has been playing a good deal of second base this Spring, with Chase Utley recovering from a sprained ankle. Utley is in the lineup today at second base. The Phillies have no natural shortstop on the roster to back up starter Freddy Galvis, though Hernandez has spent some time at shortstop in his career.
