This morning, the Phillies announced their first round of cuts this spring. Ryan Lawrence of the Daily News reports that Jesse Biddle will be headed to minor league camp along with pitchers Sean O'Sullivan, Adam Morgan, Ethan Martin, outfielder Aaron Altherr, and catcher John Hester. They also have released Xavier Paul.
Biddle, who was looking to show the Phillies organization something after a year that included a mental break from the game, is on his way to minor league camp with his head held high. On Friday against the Rays, Biddle tossed two shutout innings.
Meanwhile, Sean O'Sullivan is packing his bags for minor league camp after throwing three innings against the Yankees on Sunday. He gave up one run on two hits while striking out two. In three spring games, O'Sullivan have up five earned runs in 6.2 innings.
Adam Morgan, coming off of an elbow surgery that has caused him to miss a bulk of the past two seasons, had an impressive spring with the Phillies, tossing four shutout innings with three strikeouts in two games.
Ethan Martin, who has seen time with the big league club last season, gave up one run in three innings this spring.
Aaron Altherr saw action in nine games for the Phils this spring. He hit .250 (2-for-8) with two RBI's and five walks. Xavier Paul, who was released by the team, went 1-for-9 at the plate in six games this spring.
