R.J. Umberger will undergo season-ending surgery next week, the Flyers announced prior to Saturday's matchup with Detroit. Umberger's surgery will repair torn hip and abdominal muscles, and will need approximately 10 weeks of recovery time.
Umberger's first season back in Philly ends after a nine goal, 15-point campaign — the worst numbers of his career. He did find chemistry on a line with Sean Couturier and Matt Read, but was a healthy scratch for the past two games.
Umberger, 32, has two seasons left on his contract.
