LeSean McCoy Wanted a Raise, Chip Kelly Said No

We've had some time to process the departure of LeSean McCoy to Buffalo and while the wound may still sting, what's done is done and the Eagles now move forward with a big hole to fill on the offensive end of things.

It had been made known that both McCoy and Trent Cole would need to restructure their contracts to accommodate the Eagles this offseason. It would help them have more flexibility when it comes to free agency. While Trent Cole openly said that he would be willing to take a pay cut, McCoy was not. In fact, he was hoping for a pay bump.

The former Eagles tailback was set to earn $9.75 million in base salary this season and apparently, Chip Kelly had no thoughts of giving Shady a raise.

The main issue for McCoy is that he has no guaranteed money in the final two years of his contract. His total cash pay also decreases to $7.15 million and $7.85 million in 2016 and 2017, respectively. There have been reports saying McCoy is prepared to hold out, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network tweets that the Bills could re-work his contract after all.

In six seasons with the Eagles, McCoy rushed for 6,792 yards and 44 touchdowns. He also caught 300 passes for 2,282 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Update: Mike Garfalo of Fox Sports tweets that McCoy and the Bills are close to agreeing on a new deal before the trade becomes official on Tuesday.
