Phillies fans are mostly sick of the continued Cole Hamels rumors. Hamels is in camp in a Phillies uniform, but the rumors will not die. They were reignited today when special assistant to Ruben Amaro, Jr., Charlie Kerfeld was spotted at Boston Red Sox camp.
The report comes from CSN New England:
The sight of Charlie Kerfeld, special assistant to Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, at the Red Sox' spring-training facility began spawning those Cole Hamels trade rumors anew.
Certainly the Phillies have already put a lot of time into scouting the Red Sox system," McAdam told Trenni Kusnierek on Monday's SportsNet Central. "Charlie was around, as well as others, for most of the year, both at the major-league level and looking at the top two or three affiliates in the minor leagues.
"This may be a signal the Phillies are getting closer to pulling that trigger, and want one more look — or a couple more looks — at some people that the Red Sox might be able to offer (for Hamels)."
Or maybe it's typical.
It is not uncommon for the Phillies to send their scouts to different camps over the course of the Spring. The Phillies probably will continue to insist on outfielder Mookie Betts or catcher Blake Swihart in any deal, and the Red Sox will probably continue to balk at any deal.
