Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr., was very blunt while making an appearance on 97.5 the Fanatic in December: the Phillies are better off without Ryan Howard.  Even though you know it, I know it, Amaro knows it, and Howard probably knows it, some felt the comments reflected poorly on Amaro, as if he might have been attacking his veteran player.   Today, Amaro spoke to one reporter about the comments he made.

Ryan Lawrence of the Daily News has Amaro on record: he is sorry for the way this played out.

“Frankly, I apologized for those comments that I made that were public,” Amaro said. “And I think he appreciated that. Other than that, I want to keep the conversation private. It was a good talk.”

Meanwhile, the Phillies are reportedly talking a Howard trade with an unidentified club.   Amaro is keeping those talks private, too.
