Last night a news report from the Fox Station in Fort Myers, Florida, announced that Eagles safety Nate Allen had been arrested. Allen was pulled over by police after an allegation that Allen exposed himself was made to police. The initial report only indicated that Allen had been arrested, and provided no other details. After a short while, Allen was released without being charged with anything.
Allen spoke about the incident to a local Fort Myers newspaper:
"It's disgusting to even be associated with something like this," Allen said. "Just the fact that there's an accusation with my name, about doing something that repulsive.
"The whole time I was sitting there in this holding cell, I'm thinking, 'Football isn't even worth all this.' I don't even like considering myself a celebrity. I hate how people idolize us. Because this is the type of stuff that comes with being idolized.
"This is the stuff that comes from it."
The report says that Allen ate at a Red Lobster restaurant, where he was recognized and "one or two" teenagers tried to take advantage of his celebrity.
The report says that the investigation remains active, which Allen believes will prove his innocence:
Allen has not been charged with a crime at this time, but police are currently working with the 20th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office for case review and the investigation remains active, according to a FMPD release.
"Good," Allen said of the ongoing investigation. "I hope so. Please. I said, 'Can you look at some cameras. Can you find something that shows that I didn't do this?'"
Allen preached forgiveness, despite the traumatic experience.
Unless the Eagles re-sign him, Allen will be a free agent next month.
