Buffaloffense: Offense returns in 4-3 win over Sabres

The Flyers' offense returned after a two-game hiatus on Saturday in a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres, with two goals scored in a 2:49 span and four different Flyers putting the puck in the net.

R.J. Umberger's eighth goal of the season at the 3:51 mark of the second period was the first Flyers goal since Michael Raffl's second-period goal against Tampa Bay on Monday. As a result, the Flyers' goalless streak ended at eight periods and 168:46 of game time — nearly three full-length games, and the fourth-longest scoring drought in franchise history.

Mark Streit his sixth goal of the season on a second-period powerplay, while Chris VandeVelde and Raffl scored in a 2:43 span in the third period to put the Flyers up 4-2.

Zemgus Girgensons — the All-Star Game's leading vote-getter — opened the scoring with 1:09 to play in the first period with his 12th goal of the season. He added the game's last goal as well, scoring on a power play with 1:09 on the clock in the third period to make it a 4-3 game.

Tyler Ennis also scored his 10th goal of the season late in the second period, to join Girgensons as the second Sabre to reach the 10-goal mark this season.

Michael Del Zotto added a two-assist night for the Flyers, while Chris Stewart also had two assists for the Sabres (14-29-3).

In his fourth start of the season, Rob Zepp made 24 saves on 27 shots, improving his record to 3-1-0. Michal Neuvirth turned away 28 of 32 Flyers shots.

The Flyers (18-21-7) finished 2-for-3 on the power play, while the Sabres capitalized on one of their three man-advantage opportunities.

With the loss, the Sabres' losing streak fell to 10 games — making them the first team since 2006 to drop 10 consecutive regulation losses (Pittsburgh "accomplished" the feat from Jan. 6-23, 2006, losing two games to the Flyers in the process).

The Flyers' win also snapped a six-game road losing streak. Prior to Saturday, their last win on the road came on Dec. 23 against Minnesota — a 5-2 win for the Orange and Black.

Next up for the Flyers is a Monday matinee on Long Island against the Islanders — their final regular-season game at Nassau Coliseum — with puck drop set for 1 p.m.
