LeSean McCoy: ‘I think Nick’s a good quarterback’

While plenty of talk has surfaced regarding the Eagles and Marcus Mariota, the reality is that they likely won't trade up to get him. The amount of high draft picks it would cost along with a combination of a player or two just may not be worth it. Look at the RG3 situation. Sure, Mariota may look good, but who is telling what his pro career will bring.

All that being said, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy spoke on NFL Network about the Eagles quarkerback situation moving forward, expressing confidence with who is in place now.

"I like Nick,” McCoy said Friday night on NFL Network’s Total Access with Dan Hellie.

“The person and player that everybody thought he was, he is. There were a lot of injuries this year, Nick, obviously got injured. He gets all of the blame and he shouldn't. I think Nick's a good quarterback.”

Foles did regress a bit this past season, but is 14-4 overall as a starter under head coach Chip Kelly, throwing 40 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions. His career QB rating of 94.2 is good for fifth-highest all-time in the NFL history by a quarterback after five seasons. Foles led the Eagles to a 6-2 record to start the season before suffering a season-ending collarbone injury. Before getting hurt, he threw for 2,163 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His positive outlook has rubbed off on his teammates and McCoy says the team is behind Foles.

“He's the leader of our team,” McCoy said of Foles. “Just things didn't work out for him this year due to injury, but we've got his back. As a team, we didn't play well enough to win and to get into the playoffs.”

After the season, Foles said he expected to be back as the quarterback for the Eagles and he hopes to lead his teammates and win games. Foles will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2015 season if the Eagles decide not to resign him. He makes a base salary of $660,000 this upcoming season.
