One clot clears for Timonen, status remains uncertain

The Flyers on Saturday announced that blood clots in Kimmo Timonen's lungs have cleared up, but not in his legs.

Timonen has not appeared in a game all season while taking blood thinners to treat his clots. As a result, his status to return to the ice remains uncertain.

"There's still a chance he can play, I just don't know how great it is or whatnot," GM Ron Hextall said. "If there's a risk, we're not going to expose him to it."

Timonen said earlier this month that he began working out several months ago, but hasn't been medically cleared to skate. He'll remain on long-term injured reserve, while holding out hope that he can return to the Flyers' lineup.

His age, at 39-years-old, is also a significant factor as to whether or not his career is on the line. He has no interest in retiring just yet, as he's expressed on mutiple occasions that he wants to retire on his own terms as a player, and not due to injury.
