If Matt Kemp Fails His Padres Physical, Will the Phillies Jimmy Rollins Deal With Dodgers Go Through?

The Phillies trade with the Dodgers is still not official.  Rollins still remains listed on the Phillies' 40-man roster.   The Phillies are waiting, according to reports) for the Dodgers to finish a deal with the San Diego Padres first.   The Dodgers agreed to send outfielder Matt Kemp to the Padres in exchange for catcher Yasmani Grandal and pitching prospect Zach Eflin, who would be flipped to the Phillies along with Tom Windle in exchange for Rollins.  But, Kemp's physical may be an issue.

Will Carroll, lead writer for Bleacher Report's "Sports Medicine" segment  reports:

Even if this particular deal falls through, Rollins may not be a Phillie still.

Zach Elfin may not be a "make or break"-type player in this deal.    The Dodgers have similar-type players that they could send to the Phillies such as right-handed pitcher Jose De Leon or left-handed reliever Chris Reed.   One thing that the teams may do is complete the deal for Windle and a player to be named later, and sort out the deal then.   Of course, the Phillies could have done that all along.

Last night, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.com reported that the Padres brass were supposed to meet today to discuss the results of Kemp's physical.   There may be something in the physical that gives them pause.  Had it been a clean bill of health, what would there be to discuss?   Meanwhile, Kemp is already boasting a Padres uniform on his Twitter profile.  But alas, he has not been traded yet.
