The Flyers played the worst team in the league this afternoon, and controlled the game much like they should.

The Flyers opened the scoring just 53 seconds into the game as Sean Couturier put one home after a scramble in front, with assists from RJ Umberger and Matt Read. Couturier now has a 6-game point streak.

The Hurricanes had a decent chance in front a few minutes later but missed just wide.

Simmonds rocketed a shot past Khudobin from a bounce off the boards to put the Flyers up 2-0 halfway through the first period. Brayden Schenn and Scott Laughton picked up the assists.

The Flyers generated a few more chances but couldn’t connect and the first period ended 2-0 on the scoreboard with the Flyers leading 12-5 in shots on goal.

The Hurricanes cut the lead to one on the power play with a wraparound goal by Jordan Staal early in the second period, but then it was all Flyers.

Philadelphia answered right back on a power play of their own with a great setup by Giroux and Simmonds on a goal by Voracek to put the Flyers up 3-1

Scott Laughton scored the first goal of his career off of a pretty rush a few minutes later to put the Flyers up 4-1.

The Flyers top line continued the onslaught as Michael Raffl put home the rebound from a great setup by Giroux and Voracek to make it 5-1.

The third period was a rather uneventful one, with the Flyers killing off a penalty halfway through the period.

Mason flashed the leather throughout the period, on his way to stopping 25 of the 26 shots he faced in the game.

The Flyers next game will be Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:05.
