The Phillies are patiently waiting for some of the free agents to land new jobs before trading some of their assets. One of them is pitcher Cole Hamels, the Phillies player most capable of bringing them some pieces back in trade. The thought is that once a pitcher such as free agent Jon Lester signs with a club, that would set potential Hamels trade suitors. Or might it not matter at all?
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports:
Hamels likely Plan B for #RedSox if they fail to sign Lester. Could they get both? Not out of question, sources say.

The Red Sox currently have a starting rotation of Joe Kelly, Clay Buchholtz, and question marks.
The Red Sox need more than one starter, no matter what. Why not make them both aces? The Phillies had Hamels alongside Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Roy Oswalt in 2011. Acquiring both might make the Red Sox favorites in the American League East. The thought of it also might be enough to talk Lester into re-signing and make the Red Sox give up their prospects in trade.
