While fans are likely still reeling from Ruben Amaro's comments regarding Yasmany Tomas, the Phillies have to take care of some odds and ends before 11:59pm tonight. Antonio Bastardo, Domonic Brown and Ben Revere are all eligible for salary arbitration and are expected to receive offers from the Phils before tonight's deadline. When the Phillies tender an offer, it sets things up for the player to exchange salary figures with the team in January to sign a new contract for next season. If the Phils decide not to, which is highly unlikely, the player would become a free agent.
Perhaps the most attractive trade chip of the three, Antonio Bastardo made $2 million this season, posting a 3.94 ERA in 67 appearances. He struck out 81 over 64 innings. Brown, who most certainly took a big step back this year, made just $550,000 after hitting just .235 to go along with a less than ideal .285 OBP. Ben "singles machine" Revere ended the season tied for the National League lead in hits with 184.
While it seems Bastardo and Revere are expected to receive nice raises, Brown's offer is probably closer to his 2014 contract number.
The Phillies already avoided arbitration with lefty Cesar Henandez after agreeing to a one-year deal for next season.
