Pablo Sandoval Currently In Boston Visiting Red Sox; Yasmany Tomas Decision Could Rest On Giants

Jorge Arangure of Vice Sports reported Thursday that a deal was "imminent" with free agent outfielder  Yasmany Tomas, with a potential deal coming by the weekend.   Yet, the weekend came and went without any movement.  The San Francisco Giants emerged as competition for the Phillies for Tomas' services.  The defending world champs were reportedly considering Tomas to be a third baseman.  The holdup could be what happens to their incumbent third baseman Pablo Sandoval.  And Sandoval could be headed elsewhere.

Joe Amorosino of the Boston television station WHDH caught up with Sandoval at Logan International Airport.

The Red Sox would love to have Sandoval's bat in the lineup at third base.  If they get their guy, it could directly affect the Phillies.

Should Sandoval sign a deal with the Red Sox, the Giants' chief backup plan could be Tomas.  Thus, it would behoove Tomas and his agent Jay Alou to wait and see what happens with Sandoval before agreeing to any contract.   This does not mean it is a foregone conclusion that a Sandoval signing in Boston would mean the Phillies lose out on Tomas, but it makes signing Tomas that much more difficult.
