Earlier today Joel Sherman of the New York Post wrote about the possibility of the Phillies moving shortstop Jimmy Rollins. As it turns out, there was interest in the Phillies shortstop, from a team all too familiar to Phillies fans. Would the Phillies trade Rollins to the New York Mets? According to a report, they were interested.
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reported that the Mets had interest:
Now this would have made an interesting pairing: The Mets, in need of a shortstop, spoke with the Philadelphia Phillies about acquiring Jimmy Rollins in a trade, sources told ESPNNewYork.com. The pursuit since has been dismissed because Rollins does not want to leave Philadelphia, a source added.
Rollins has full no-trade protection as a "10 and 5" player (10 years of major league service with five or more continuous years with one team).
So, Rollins figures to be with the Phillies at least one more season. Maybe the Phillies would be comfortable with Rollins staying until shortstop J.P. Crawford is ready. How the Rollins situation plays out long-term could be interesting; he will be a free agent after 2015.
