Tonight I have my last Phillies tickets of 2014. It's been a very disappointing season, for the third straight year. Assuming a 1-2 weekend, which happens a lot to this team, the Phillies will finish the exact same as last year. There's not much to celebrate about the 2014 Phillies, and this weekend is simply about playing out the string.
With that said, tonight might be the last time I see Ryan Howard play in Philadelphia. For that matter, it could be the last time for Utley, Rollins, or Chooch. It could be the final weekend of Kendrick or Hamels' time here as well. This could very well be it for these guys in Philadelphia. Sure, they have contracts that would dictate that, but there is plenty of chatter that this team will be overhauled. One would think that most of the 2008 players still around could possibly be moved.
I'll be very honest and say I'm totally fine with that. Three years out of the playoffs is unacceptable. It's time to change the roster a lot, and if that means that one or all of these guys go, it's the way it has to be. Even so, I will miss watching them. It was a great ride. You can't help but appreciate the careers in Philadelphia that these guys had, and wish things had ended differently.
So tonight will be a fun night, but in many ways sad. That run is long over, and I hope the franchise knows it. I'll stay positive though, for tonight, because our aging team remains a team i'm fond of for their time here.
