The Phillies signed reliever Mike Adams to a two-year, $12 million deal prior to the 2013 season. They have not gotten much for their money, thanks to injury. Adams has only been able to give the Phillies 42 innings over 47 appearances. With a contract expiring, Adams will give it one more go in his Phillies career.
Stephen Gross of the Allentown Morning Call reports that Adams is beginning to work his way back:

Adams' last appearance came on June 6.
Adams is on the Phillies 60-day disabled list, which may have contributed to the Phillies designating infielder Reid Brignac for assignment today. With 40-man roster spots scarce, the Phillies will need to add spaces if they wish to activate Adams and any September call-ups. Andres Blanco could suffer the same fate, too, in upcoming weeks so that the Phillies can add Adams and perhaps Maikel Franco to the 40-man roster.
The Phillies 40-man roster currently sits at 39, after subtracting Brignac. Adams would be the 40th and could join the Phillies when rosters expand September 1, if for no other reason a lack of team to rehab with. Both AA Reading and AAA Lehigh Valley conclude their seasons on September 1, as does Low A Lakewood. Class A Clearwater concludes August 31.
