The last time A.J. Burnett took the mound, it wasn't his best start. It also wasn't his longest start, either. Burnett was ejected in the second inning after making a sarcastic comment to umpire Chris Guccione. Burnett will take the mound tonight with a different umpiring crew and will see if he can go longer than one and two-thirds innings tonight. Burnett comes into the game with a 6-11 record and 4.16 ERA.
The Mets will counter with Bartolo Colon. The Mets were unable to work out a trade for Colon prior to the non-waiver trade deadline, despite reports that they were trying to move him. Colon could be dealt in the near future should he clear waivers. Colon is 10-9 with a 4.12 ERA for the Mets in 2014. His season includes a number of outstanding starts, some middle of the road starts, and some putrid starts. Last start for Colon was of the bad variety: four and two-thirds innings while allowing six earned runs.
Game Notes:
- Domonic Brown is out of the Phillies lineup once again in favor of Grady Sizemore. Brown has not started a game since July 29. Brown had infected tonsils that kept him out of games for a few days, but Brown has appeared in three straight games as a pinch hitter.
- Mets starter Bartolo Colon goes for win number 200 of his career tonight.
- Roy Halladay returns to Citizens Bank Park tonight to be honored for his Phillies success. Fans will receive a Roy Halladay bobble figurine.
- Outfielder Chris Young is on thin ice for the Mets. Young is hitting just .205 with a .630 OPS for the Mets. Young signed a one-year, $7.25 million deal with the Mets this offseason that upset some Phillies fans who felt that a Young/Nate Schierholtz plattoon would be just what the Phillies needed. Schierholtz was recently designated for assignment by the Cubs after hitting .192 with a .540 OPS.
