The Phillies looked overmatched on paper going into game two. Matt Cain, long-time top starting pitcher, hit the disabled list today. Cain was tonight's scheduled starter. Yusmeiro Petit will get the spot start in Cain's place. Petit is 3-3 with a 3.86 ERA. Petit's workload includes five starts and 21 bullpen appearances. The good news for the Phillies is that Petit may not be in position to go deep into tonight's ballgame.
The Phillies are sending Roberto Hernandez to the mound tonight. Hernandez is now 4-8 with a 4.22 ERA. Compounding Hernandez's woes is that he fails to go deep in games, putting too much pressure on the Phillies' bullpen. Hernandez must be efficient with his pitches in order to have a chance at today's game. If both Petit and Hernandez depart early, tonight's game could easily become a battle of the bullpens.

- Darin Ruf will be in uniform today, replacing John Mayberry Jr. who hit the 15-day disabled list today.
- The Giants will be using catcher Buster Posey at first base today. Starting first baseman Brandon Belt hit the disabled list today, along with starter Matt Cain.
- Grady Sizemore will make another start, this time in place of Domonic Brown in left field. Last night Brown went 0-5 with five runners left on base and an error in left field. Sizemore has started and hit in all seven games since he joined the Phillies. As a Phillie, Sizemore is hitting .379 and produced an .868 OPS
