Third Baseman Maikel Franco And Shortstop J.P. Crawford Named To Futures Game

MaikelFranco

Some good news on the Phillies prospect front: two Phillies prospects are going to represent the Phillies in the 2014 Futures Game.   The Futures Game is a companion to the All-Star game that  showcases some of the top prospects in the game.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports:

The selection is Franco's second; Crawford will attend for the first time.  In 2013 Franco and Phillies pitching prospect Jesse Biddle represented the Phillies.

At AAA Lehigh Valley, Franco is batting .207 with five home runs and 29 RBI.  With an OPS of .587, Franco is not exactly dominating.  But, at just 21 years old, Franco's raw power, arm, and potential make him an ideal player to showcase.

As for Crawford, Crawford is hitting .190 in his first five games for the Clearwater Threshers.  Crawford was recently promoted to high class A after batting .295 with an on base percentage of .398 for Class A Lakewood.   After going hitless in his first two games, Crawford is four for his last 13.
