In the fifth inning of last night's Phillies victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, third baseman Reid Brignac hit an infield grounder that was fielded by Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller. In an attempt to beat the other, both Brignac and Miller converged on first base in a way not recommended: a sort of half-jump or slide. Brignac will now miss time with an ankle sprain.
The Phillies reported that Brignac would hit the disabled list:
#PhilliesUpdate: @reidbrignac was placed on the 15-day DL with a left ankle sprain. 3B @cody_smasche was activated from the DL.

Brignac was batting .310 in his last seven games, including a walk off home run and an RBI double that helped the Phillies come from behind to sweep the San Diego Padres.
Asche returns after a rehab stint in the minors that was very productive. Asche went 8 for 13 with three home runs and nine RBI. Asche arrived to St. Louis before last night's game, but the Phillies chose not to activate Asdche. They are lucky that they did, because if they designated infielder Ronny Cedeño for assignment for Asche they would not have another infielder on the 40-man roster to fill in for Brignac.
