The Phillies announced yesterday that Jonathan Pettibone would start tonight's game at home against the Miami Marlins. The Phillies had to make room on the roster, and of the Phillies relievers, Mario Hollands, B.J. Rosenberg, Justin De Fratus, and Jake Diekman had minor league options remaining. However, the did so in the form of reliever Brad Lincoln.

Reliever Brad Lincoln cleared waivers and was sent outright to AAA to make room for Pettibone. #Philliestalk

Lincoln did not appear to be Phillies Manager Ryne Sandberg's favorite player. Lincoln was the last to appear in a major league game on the Phillies' active roster, and he pitched just twice. In Lincoln's first outing, he allowed an inherited runner to score in one inning of work. In his second appearance, two innings against the Brewers, Lincoln allowed three runs.
The move gives the Phillies an additional 40-man roster spot. The Phillies need one more roster spot as early as Monday, as Mike Adams potentially could be activated from the disabled list. Lincoln came to the Phillies this past offseason from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for catcher Erik Kratz and minor league pitcher Rob Rasmussen.
