This morning, several beat writers reported that the Phillies have decided to release RHP Michael Stutes.
The 27 year old has spent his entire eight-year career within the Phillies organization, accumlulating a 9-3 record along with a 4.03 ERA during four years in the majors. Stutes had a stand out year in 2011 when he went 6-2 with a 3.63 ERA in 57 games, striking out 58 hitters in 62 innings pitched.
In 2012, Stutes landed himself on the DL with shoulder issues and had never been the same. Stutes spent most of his time with the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs last year, as he only pitched in 16 games with the Phillies.
Stutes was cleared from waivers back on March 11th and was subsequently released this morning.
We will update you with any further news regarding this story as more details emerge.
