The Phillies sure got lucky. After outrighting utility infielder Kevin Frandsen to the minor leagues, it appeared the Phillies would have a $900,000 minor leaguer at AAA Lehigh Valley. Under the CBA, Frandsen could accept the assignment and earn his full salary while playing in the minors, or he could elect free agency. Without any real guaranteed Frandsen could earn the same salary on the open market, many assumed Frandsen would accept the assignment. He has not.
According to many reports, including Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly, Frandsen has opted out of his contract and will become a free agent:

The move could have ramifications for outfielder John Mayberry. The Phillies may have been willing to eat one player's salary but not two. If the Phillies wish to cut Mayberry, they have an extra $900,000 to work with.
As for Frandsen, he may not make the same salary in 2014. The benefit for him could be playing time and the chance at earning more money down the road.
Tomorrow, March 26 was to be Bobby Abreu's decision day. The Phillies had to decide whether or not to add him to the 40-man roster. That decision day will be delayed, as both sides have agreed to push it back:

With a sore shoulder, Abreu appeared willing to show the team that he could heal. If he makes the team he will make $800,000 plus incentives.
