Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more!
Something that has been sort of fun this week has been this link that has been making the rounds on Twitter which allows users to see the first tweet ever of any account they want simply by typing in a given Twitter handle.
Some of the first tweets are fun or funny, some of them are completely innocuous. You know, like the Toronto Maple Leafs' first tweet ever:
Pretty standard opening tweet for a professional sports team, and it's certainly not anything that's too bold or anything. But, a user who goes by the handle @b1rky and is a contributor to Pension Plan Puppets, a Toronto Maple Leafs blog, went back through and found Toronto's second tweet ever:
Jonas Gustavsson hasn't quite panned out as the starting goaltender he was projected to be in North America, but Vesa Toskala… Hoo boy. It's just too funny when you think about this:
The craziest part of course being that the above goal was allowed BEFORE that second tweet went out. You have to feel for the Maple Leafs and fans of the organization a little bit over the past decade or so, but considering their turnaround in the last couple of years, it's good to see the Original Six franchise get back to being a playoff club.
If you get a chance head on over to first-tweets to see what your first tweet ever was and share it with us on Twitter. Catch you all on the flip side!
