Nate Allen, coming off his best season as a professional, re-signed with the Eagles Monday to a one-year contract.

Allen, 26, finished last season with 82 tackles, one forced fumble and one interception in his fourth NFL season, but first under defensive coordinator Billy Davis Jr, who seemed to get the most out of the University of South Florida product.

The Eagles of course have spent the first two weeks of free agency bolstering the secondary after inking safety Malcolm Jenkins and corner Nolan Carrol last week to now go with bringing Allen back for depth purposes behind projected starters Jenkins and Earl Wolff

Allen's improvement seemed to coincide with the Eagles defense overall coming on strong as the 2013 season wore on.

After re-upping Allen, the Eagles now have five safeties on the roster and could wind up adding another in May's NFL draft.
