Just about halfway through the Grapefruit League schedule, Jimmy Rollins did not start yesterday in Orlando. Today in Bradenton, Jimmy Rollins did not start. In Spring Training, the next day's lineup is usually posted the night before. That is why we already know that Rollins is not scheduled to play tomorrow, either. That got the attention of reporters.
Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer was among those who inquired with Phillies' Manager Ryne Sandberg about Rollins' status, noticing the pattern.
When asked about Rollins' status, Amaro said he was unaware of any health problems and referred the inquiry to Ryne Sandberg because the manager makes the lineup.
"He's fine," Sandberg said.
With Rollins' health status certain, the reporters wanted to know more. When asked about Rollins, Sandberg instead chose to praise Freddy Galvis.
"Freddy's a guy that will get playing time at various positions," Sandberg said. "He's a guy that I like in the lineup. I felt good about what he brings to the table. The biggest thing I like is his energy and his positive influence. His positive influence on everyone around him."
When asked about Rollins' energy and influence, Sandberg said, "No comment."
Rollins is hitting just .133 in 15 at bats so far this Spring.
