Earlier this offseason we learned that long-time Phillies broadcasters Chris Wheeler and Gary Matthews Sr. had been relieved of their duties in light of the mega TV contract that was signed between the franchise and Comcast SportsNet.

Jamie Moyer and Matt Stairs were named replacements for the duo that drew mixed feelings from fans, especially during recent years during poor team performance.

Two people joining the booth with McCarthy came as a surprise, as many reported the Phillies were only looking for one former Phillie to become the next color commentator.

Well, now add a third to the mix.  According to Daily News Staff Writer, Ryan Lawrence, Phillies Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt will become the newest broadcaster for the club, broadcasting all of the team's 13 Sunday home games.

Schmidt would join McCarthy along with either Matt Stairs or Jamie Moyer, however all four would never be broadcasting simultaneously.  That would be insane!

Schmidt and his two partners will work all nine innings, a new twist that was implemented this season for all Comcast SportsNet/NBC10 broadcasts.

We could hear Mike as soon as next month in Grapefruit League action, according to Lawrence, as he is due to visit Clearwater sometime soon.  He was absent from Phillies camp thus far as an instructor due to undisclosed issues with his health.

Schmidt returns to the booth as a Phillies broadcaster for the first time since 1990 with PRISM, the company that broadcast Phils' games prior to Comcast taking over later that decade in 1997.
