Sixers swap Hawes for two picks

Philadelphia has traded Spencer Hawes to the Cleveland Cavilers for two second round picks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal comes just hours before the deadline, and it could be the first of multiple shoes to drop.

Hawes, 25, was in the final year of a two-year deal he signed two off seasons ago. He was likely to walk in free agency following the season as the Sixers are expected to hand the center position over to first round pick Nerlens Noel next season.

It is unclear which two second-round picks Philadelphia is receiving, as Cleveland owns three. In addition to their own, they have the rights to the second round pick of Memphis and Orlando. This would add to the three second round picks Philadelphia already owns. Depending on which picks are involved, the 76ers could have four picks in the top 34 selections as they try to rebuild their roster.

According to Wojnarowski, expiring contracts are also likely to be a part of the deal. Earl Clark, Alonzo Gee and C.J. Miles are the players most likely to be involved, though not all of them.

In his fourth year with the Sixers, Hawes was averaging 13 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. He is an NBA veteran of seven years. His last game as a member of the 76ers came against the Cavilers on Tuesday, when he scored only two points in 29 minutes.

UPDATE: David Aldridge is reporting the Earl Clark is the player Cleveland is sending to Philadelphia.
