The Phillies officially announced the signing of pitcher Roberto Hernandez to a one year, $4.5 million contract plus incentives. Hernandez will wear number 27 so get those old Chris Coste jerseys altered.
To make room the Phillies announced former catching prospect Sebastian Valle will be designated for assignment. Valle was once highly thought of in the Phillies system but with the rise of Cameron Rupp and the acquisition of Tommy Joseph in the Hunter Pence trade, Valle became expendable. At the same time he also put up pretty brutal numbers and his ceiling was that of a back up catcher at best. He'll latch onto another team's depth chart.
